This Sunday: Economic & Community Health
We began our 6-week Lenten journey on Sunday by treasuring our physical health. We had record attendance (56 in-person and over 34 devices online!) with special thanks to the Scout Troops 88 and 888, and our Missions Team Soup Sale. Join us this Sunday to learn how we can safeguard our community and protect our economic health. You may still click this link to download a weekly guide for your personal reflection. We hope to worship with you soon!
Click the red square here on Sunday, February 28th at 10:15AM to join the worship warm-up, or at 10:30AM to join us in worship.

Please click here to see the new and improved Church Calendar (with Zoom links for each open meeting and small group)
Charge Conference
You are invited to a Special Charge Conference on Tuesday, March 16th at 7:00PM to discuss a change in our organizational structure. A single-Board governance model would increase efficiency, flexibility, and collaboration, trading time spent in meetings for time spent in active ministry and service. Email Leadership Council Chair Perry Cogburn with questions or concerns. More details coming soon.
Hey Youth!
We know it's been a while since the Walnut Street Youth Group met, but we have not forgotten you! This coming Saturday, all 6th-12th graders are invited to join a Youth Worship Night at Bethel Lutheran Church. Please wear a mask and invite a friend. Soon we'll be asking you about a possible VBS program this summer, so please email Pastor Emily if you would like to help.
Lenten home altars
We hope you recently received a gift bag on your porch with a daily devotional and items to create a sacred space in your home. We'd love to see your photos on our Facebook page. If you did not receive a gift, please contact the church office and we will gladly bring out to you!
Missing Roaster
The church is missing a new electric roasting pan. If you borrowed it and forgot to return it, or if you know where it might be, please call or email the church office. It would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Food Donations Continues to Pile Up
Thank you to those that have continued to donate food and toiletry supplies for the Windsor Food Pantry! With your generosity, struggling families continue to have resources during the cold winter and uncertain times. If you have any non-perishable items to donate, you can drop off in the church lobby in the wagon during work hours. You may leave new winter clothes for the Cold Weather Shelter at the same time.
Lenten Bible Study
The Thursday night Women's Bible study and Sunday School class are offering a six-week Lenten study by Rev. Adam Hamilton. No book necessary to join! Please join Pat Ferrell Thursdays at 5:30pm in Fellowship Hall with Covid-precautions, or join online at the same time with Paula Allard using this Zoom link. Love is the Greatest Gift we can Give!

Be thankful and LOVE

This Sunday there is a secular holiday with religious roots. Valentine's Day has come to be all about romantic relationships, cards, flowers and fancy dinners.
But it didn't begin that way.
It all started with AGAPE, a brotherly, neighborly love that one Christ follower had for others in need, in pain.
At First UMC Windsor, we'll return to those roots this Sunday, as we celebrate God's love and ourown. There might still be chocolate ;-)
But more importantly, at 10:30 AM on Sunday, there will be worship, music, prayer and baptism. Hope to see you there!

Finding Peace in the Solitude

*|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|*
This Sunday we take a deeper look at something we've all become experts in: SOLITUDE. As his first formal act of ministry, Jesus went alone into the desert and was tempted by Evil (Luke 4:1-15). It's only in facing our fears, that we find lasting strength from God. We will celebrate Holy Communion during worship - in the sanctuary or online.  So stop by the church office to pick up your pre-blessed Communion set, ask your Angel for a delivery visit, or BYOB (bring your own bread and juice). It will be glorious!

Still chugging along
We continue to welcome record small numbers (12-18) to in-person worship each week. Vaccines are NOT required, but face coverings and social distance are. We'll be here when you are ready.
An Invitation:
"I wanted to be the first to invite you back to church. We are able to return to the Sanctuary for Worship, with distancing and mask wearing requirement, but it is a return to in person worship. Thank you to those of you that have been watching and worshiping with us online, but as a rather traditional church and denomination it just doesn’t feel the same, does it?

What I miss by worshiping at home is the fellowship of our members – you! And the mixing of our voices as we raise them together as we sing and praise God. I know that He hears us as a chorus no matter where we are, but there is something special about joining our voices as one in our Sanctuary.

I also long to feel the Holy Spirit as He mingles among and through us as we gather 0together with a common purpose of worship. I know it is convenient to watch the Service from the comfort of our homes, but I challenge you to make the effort to get out of your PJs, comb your hair, and join us this Sunday morning at 10:30AM. If you are hesitant to attend yet due to the pandemic, I understand your concern, and would never ask you to discount your safety. I just miss you and felt like it was time for me to extend this invitation. I continue to pray for our church and its congregation, each and every one of you.

God bless. Christ is counting on us!"
Perry Cogburn (Leadership Council Chairman)

Notable Christmas Thank you
"Thank you, thank you! for a Christmas Eve that our group of 9 will not soon forget. The lights on the sidewalks, the bells proclaiming Jesus's birth - God bless you all for sharing a real truth. It was a blessing to hear. As the time passes, do not tire of towing the true line, run the race, and continue to push for those who don't know the love of God. Christmas Eve was such a blessing to many souls; we so appreciate your time and talents. Thank you for sharing this special night with us all! Galatians 6:9 'And let us not grow weary of doing good' and Proverbs 21:21 'He who prusues righteousness and loving devotion finds life sad honor.' Please host again - what a blessed event!" from Cheryl Armstrong, LaPorte

Feeling Lost? Small? Overwhelmed? Hopeful?

This past year, month, and week in our Nation has produced a variety of responses: fear, anger, frustration, relief, joy, redemption, and more. A friend described her emotions as a hurricane of tears. I reminded her that God is the eye of the storm, the silent center, the unflinching, unshakeable Truth that grounds us and holds us, even when we feel alone and afraid. This Sunday we'll learn from 12-year-old Jesus (Luke 2:41-52) about how he had to get lost in order to find himself, a powerful reminder of the value of disorientation. Hope to see you in church or online!   love, Pastor Emily

All are welcome! If you've made extra prayer shawls,  please bring them in; we are planning a Blessing during worship soon. Thank you so much and God Bless You, Paula Allard (President)
Crowds of 12
Pictured is not our church, but one like us the past 2 weeks - welcoming 12 people for live worship (plus many online viewers). If you have wondered what worship is like: all wear masks, sanitize and hold social distance. We are "safer" than most places you dine or shop, but we'll be here, online and in-person, when you are ready. If we can do anything to help you feel comfortable enough to return, please let us know.
Mission Spotlight: Feed My Starving Children
For over 5 years, we have supported this international organization delivering meals to hungry children in over 70 countries. We've always loved packing meals at The Ranch (seen here), but are unable to this year due to Covid. Please consider a financial donation or read more here
Did you Say Soup?
The Missions Team is planning a Soup Sale fundraiser in February. The funds raised will be used to support Habitat for Humanity as well as other projects. We will have two delicious soup options. Watch for details soon!

Racial Justice is Everyone's Work

But a t-shirt is only an outward sign of inward work. Antiracism work is crucial for all United Methodists, which should be to all people who call themselves Christian. Jesus spent his life at the margins, healing, befriending, and uplifting the broken, outcast, and unaccepted. "There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus." (Galatians 3:28) It's time we took that call to end divisions seriously! This weekend, as our nation observes the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, I invite you to think about whether or not you would wear this shirt, if this work matters to you, and what you might do - NOW, today - to create racial justice. Click on the t-shirt to read what other UMCs are doing and to find resources on where to begin.

Did you hear?
Though Covid continues and is mutating, we reopened the church doors for worship last Sunday and had 12 people join us (plus many online). If you are vaccinated, or well and ready, we all wear masks, sit in socially distanced family groups, sanitize, and contact trace. We are more safe than most places you shop - and we'd love to worship with you in person! If we can do anything to help you feel comfortable enough to return, please let us know.
If you missed last Sunday's worship warm-up, Sharon has some great ideas and crafts for you! Supplies still available in the church lobby.
Prayers
Divisions, fear and unrest across the nation; Melinda S. (wet macular degeneration); Betty & Larry Schleiger (ongoing treatments); young Aiden; baby Apollo; Kat's pregnancy; Marilyn's family; Vera's treatments; Mary M.; Tony P.; Sgt. Lizzie Pryzgoda.

Things Don't Always Go According to Plan

Woody Allen once said, if you want to hear God laugh, make plans. 2020 proved his point, but when our plans are thwarted, it's best to take a deep breath, say a prayer, and go Back to the Basics. Pastor Emily just returned from some rest and renewal and is eager to welcome you all back to the church this Sunday for a hybrid online and in-person worship service! That's right - if you are unwell or prefer to stay safer at home, there is a link below. But for those ready and able to return to worship in our sanctuary: WELCOME BACK!! Please remember your masks. We'll be taking a look this month at Jesus's earliest years to learn life lessons that will help us chart a course to JOY in 2021.

If you missed last Sunday's Epiphany worship service, you can still catch it online! Just in time to chart a New Year's course.
From Pastor Emily
"My family and I are grateful for your cards, gifts, and Christmas greetings. It was tough to be away, especially during the first Christmas Eve Walk! But each moment that you thought of us, each prayer and show of support that you offered, filled my heart and recharges my energy for another exciting year together. Being your Pastor is the greatest gift of all. May God continue to bless and keep us."
Successful Christmas Eve Walk
Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered to help set up, clean up, and welcome our neighbors. Pictured here (with thanks to photographer Meg Persavich) are team leader Warren Wilson, with elves Cristina Caplinger, Rodger and Cathy Bell, Debbie and Tracy Bates, and Katie and Julie Cogburn. Many others, including John Lee who prepared the milk jug luminaries, worked hard to help light up Walnut Street for this first-ever ecumenical event! The weather held out, and we served 200 cups of hot apple cider to those who braved the chilly night for what we hope will become a new tradition. Although we hope to return to in-person worship for Christmas Eve 2021, we plan to find the perfect time to join together again with Bethel Lutheran, St. Albans, and First Christian to welcome our community into our beautiful churches.
Prayer Vigil for Peace
In response to the events that unfolded in our nation's capital this week, several local area United Methodist churches are joining for an informal prayer vigil this Sunday at 1:00PM on Zoom. Click here to join. All are welcome for guided, silent, and spontaneous prayer.

Blessings of Love

A Trinity of Love

This has been the strangest year - and as it draws to a close, I am overwhelmed by the love and support I feel in this community. On the heels of such a difficult, painful year, I am preparing to spend my first Christmas with my extended family in South Carolina (Dec. 16-Jan. 5) in more than 20 years. Of course we are anxious about Covid and traveling, and will be taking all precautions and quarantining! But while recording the sermons and services ahead of time, singing the songs, seeing a few faces and making important phone calls, I have never felt so joyful! Thank you for this gift of sacrificial love. You are the angels standing alongside me and our church's leaders in our community. As Paula Allard's painting shows above, we are never alone - not Mary, or Elizabeth, and not you and me today. Reach out to someone today and say "I love you!"
- With traveling mercies and blessings of love for you, Pastor Emily

Finance Committee Report:

On behalf of the FUMC Finance Committee, we want to thank you for your faithful financial support this past year that will take us to the end of 2020. It appears to be a year ending under the anticipated budgeted expenses and in the black with $188,000 in revenue and expenses! In addition to your personal gifts of giving, we received $2000 in technology grants that assisted in the sanctuary sound & recording renovations to make our online church services possible. We also received approximately $1000 in grocery rebate revenue from King Soopers and Safeway, so thanks for your giving while shopping! We also want to thank you for the continued gifts of both time &finances for the many special projects and missions of our church this past year.

At the December Finance meeting we approved a balanced budget for 2021 with anticipated revenue of $195,000 equal to the planned expenses for 2021. Included in this revenue are the funds received from the Payroll Protection Program grant of $28K received in 2020 which will carry over into 2021. Thank you to the 32 families that provided a giving pledge for 2021 totaling $106K. We hope to see you on the Walnut Street Christmas Eve walk - and back in our sanctuary sometime in January!

May your Season of Christmas be blessed!
Ruth Ann Roberts, FUMC Finance Chair
Christmas Offerings

It has been our tradition to use our Christmas Eve offering for Missions. We hope to continue, even in the absence of our normal services. If you can give a special Christmas offering for Missions this year, please give here: www.firstumcwindsor.com/donate or mail or drop-off a check to the church, noting Missions/Christmas. All monies will be used to support our monthly projects which will not have normal fundraising events due to Covid-19. Thank You!
Warren Wilson is organizing our hot cider booth and giving away sleigh bells on Christmas Eve if you'd like to join him and help spread some Christmas cheer!
Cookie Walk turned Auction
We love the mission of Habitat for Humanity and have supported their Cookie Walk fundraiser in past years. Of course this year, the Cookie Walk will not take place. Instead, Habitat is doing an online Arts and Crafts Auction. There are some great gift items. Check it out!
Drop-Off winds down
Today until 3PM is the last day to drop-off donations for Toys for Tots. This Friday 10AM-3PM is the final day to bring well-rinsed, label-free plastic jugs for our Christmas Eve luminaries. Donations for the Guadalupe Center (new clothing and individually wrapped snacks) continue all winter. And our wagon for Food Pantry donations continues all year. Please call or knock for financial donations (inside).
Mission Updates
Thank you for your generosity this Christmas! We will continue ALL WINTER LONG collecting new adult clothing (gloves, underwear, men's jeans), hygiene items (deodorant, foot powder), backpacks, snacks for the Guadalupe Center and Cold Weather Shelter. Or volunteer to serve a meal. We also invite you to make a special Christmas Eve offering for Missions. Thanks!
