Communion & Community

This Sunday we will continue finding common ground in this politically divisive, socially distanced world by celebrating Holy Communion and focusing on our community. We will honor all the Saints who've gone before us, and many who are still among us! Please remember to adjust your clocks and join us in worship at 10:30AM (in-person or online). Also, why not connect with a small group at 9AM on Zoom for Bible study or at 11:30AM for Virtual Fellowship Hour. We're here for YOU!

Let's Come Together, Right Now

As whipping winds and raging wildfires force evacuations across our mountain communities, and political discord has people shouting on street corners and disrupting family dinners, it is time for us all to come together. Right now.
Stop. Drop. and Pray.
This Sunday we'll begin a new 4-week series on Finding Common Ground through simple Christian practices. Please join us in worship at 10:30AM (in-person or on YouTube). And connect with a small group at 9AM on Zoom for Bible study or at 11:30AM for Virtual Fellowship Hour. We need one another!
A poem by Vera Chipman
Have you looked around you lately?
At the earth, the moon, the Stars?
At the Mountains, at the oceans?
All the beauties that are ours?
Have you wondered how they got there,
all the wonders that you see?
Have you ever wondered
at the sense of you and me?
Have you wondered at the power and the Glory of the one,
who brought us all together by the Giving of His son?

Trunk or Treat moved
Due to Sunday's snowy forecast, we will offer a smaller, modified version of celebration for our families right after church next Sunday, Nov. 1st. We'd love to see your children in costume, safely distanced (we've only had 20-30 in worship, with room for 50), masks not required under age 5. Contact Emily if you can bring candy, toys, individually-wrapped treats, or a decorated trunk. Thank you!

Gratitude = Generosity

After dinner in Estes Park last week, my husband snapped this gorgeous photo. That sunset stopped me in my tracks, gasping, just as it moved a woman to stand there painting it. Yes, I understood it was caused by the destruction of wildland fires; I gave thanks to all those fighting, and prayers for all who have or will suffer losses. But most importantly: I stopped. Sometimes our media-fueled, globalized world seems to spin too quickly, but this was God's reminder that there is beauty in the chaos, grief and pain. What could you see differently this week? And what are you thankful for?
We conclude the generosity campaign this Sunday and ask everyone to turn in a financial commitment card for 2021 so that we might plan our annual budget. You can download one here or stop by the church lobby to pick one up. Please join us in worship at 10:30AM Sunday (in-person or on YouTube). You may also connect at 9AM on Zoom for Adult Sunday School or at 11:30AM on Zoom for Virtual Fellowship Hour. We'd be grateful to see you!

Extend Gratitude in Action,
from Colossians 3: 12-17

This week = deadline!
Thank you for praying about your 2021 financial commitments to our church. Please mail in, drop off, or email our Financial Secretary Linda Burr now with your pledges (and whether or not this is a new or increased pledge over what you gave in 2020). Thank you so much!

Give Now
If you could volunteer to run games or decorate your trunk for the event above, please contact Pastor Emily. All are encouraged to bring candy or small prizes (toys, stickers, slime, school supplies) to the lobby NOW for this ecumenical festival! Invite your neighbors, colleagues and friends to help make it a blast!
Pastor Appreciation Month continues
The Staff-Parish Relations Committee encourages you to help us celebrate with the following ideas:
- Send Pastor Emily a note of thanks (her new address is: 9799 N. 89th St, Longmont, CO 80503)
- Contribute to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund to assist Emily as she supports many others in our church and community (designate "Pastor's Discretionary" or "PDF")
- Contribute to a monetary gift (designate "SPRC/Pastor Emily")
Ever want to preach?
Or improve your leadership in the church or community? The United Methodist Church invites and empowers all people to preach and lead with integrity and skill. If you feel called, we invite you to a Foundations Basic Course in the Certified Lay Speaker/Lay Minister (CLS/CLM) program. A new opportunity via Zoom begins October 27th from 6:45-8:45PM. Please contact Pastor Emily to join or ask any questions you may have. ALL are welcome! Click here for more info!
All Saints Day, Nov. 1
Each year we celebrate the loved ones we have lost, but Covid-19 will change the way we honor them this year. Watching online, you cannot come to the front and light a candle. However, the wild goose in flight has long been a sign of the Spirit, so we will use them as we remember those whose spirits now fly free and unfettered. Please send names to the church office of anyone you've loved and lost. They will be included on a paper goose in worship. Let's fill the air above our altar with flying geese.
Honoring and Remembering the lives of Saints
There will be a special memorial service live-streamed on All Saint's Day, Sunday, Nov. 1st, at 7PM to remember the clergy colleagues and their spouses lost this year. A link to join will be posted to the MSC Facebook Page.

Virtual Baby Shower

Alexia Cunningham-Baca, daughter of Nancy and Isaiah, and big sister to Ryder and Kane, is expecting her 1st child on December 16th, a boy named Apollo. Alexia and Vincent are registered at Target. Since public gatherings are restricted, we’re offering a baby-themed Christmas tree in the lobby. Please leave your gifts underneath by Thanksgiving, when we plan “shower” them with our love and prayers. Contact Jaime Cummings if you have any questions.

The Thursday night women's group will soon begin "Advent, The Weary World Rejoices," a 5-week study which can be done as a group, individually or as a family. It includes daily reading and weekly activities for adults, teens and children. We meet Thursdays 5:30- 7:00PM at the church (with social distancing and safety measures in place) or on Zoom. All are welcome. We begin on October 29th and finish December 3rd. Our hearts and minds will then be prepared to enjoy time with our family and friends as we focus on the true meaning of Christmas. Whether you are able to join the group or not, books are available through online or by contacting Pat Ferrell. We are invited to remember the hope, peace, joy and love that Jesus offers, not just at Christmas but throughout the year.

Want more JOY in life?

We are in the middle of our annual four-week generosity drive, and this week we want to add a spark of JOY to your life, on top of the love and grace we've already poured out. We hope our colorful brochure brought a smile to your face (if you haven't seen it yet, click here or stop by the church office to pick one up). Thanks to Cheryl for pointing out it should read 2021 Commitment (not 2020), so please return the cards with your plans for giving next year! Then join us in a joyful worship service this Sunday (in-person or on YouTube) at 10:30AM. Before or after, dial-in to Zoom for Adult Sunday School at 9AM or Virtual Fellowship Hour at 11:30AM. We'd be delighted to (re-)connect with you!

As our annual generosity update reminded us, there is much good news to share: giving is up $5,500 over last year, despite the pandemic. Please continue to remember how important your gifts are, as you pray about your 2021 commitments. Thank you so much!

Guadalupe's finest!

Meg Persavich is no stranger to lending a helping hand, and she was recently honored for her devotion to volunteering at the Guadalupe Community Center in Greeley, offering meals to people in need. We are so proud of your time and effort in giving back, Meg! Take a look at the full spotlight article here.  Or honor Meg by clicking this link to volunteer to serve dinner!

Virtual Baby Shower

Church member Alexia Cunningham-Baca, daughter of Nancy and Isaiah, and big sister to Ryder and Kane, is expecting her 1st child December 16th, a boy named Apollo. Alexia and Vincent are registered at Target and need many things, as well as your prayers and support. Since public gatherings are still restricted, we’re offering a baby-themed Christmas tree in the lobby. Please leave your gifts underneath, or directly on the tree. We hope to “shower” them with our love around Thanksgiving. Questions? Ask Jaime Cummings.

Christmas Missions

Each Sunday, Meg Persavich, October Missions Leader, will be in the lobby to distribute shoeboxes and instructions for Operation Christmas Child (OCC), the Blackfeet United Methodist Parish (BUMP), Toys for Tots (Sandi and Bill Hill, organizers) and the Windsor Optimist Club (Santa's Toy Shop). The display will remain in the lobby all month; drop by Tues-Fri 10AM-3PM. Meg can also deliver boxes and information to your porch on request. Return filled boxes for OCC and BUMP by Tuesday, November 17. Please include $9/box for shipping. If you would like to track your OCC box to its destination, do your own label and pay online. Donate money for shipping rather than shopping (checks to FUMC Windsor designating “OCC” or "BUMP"). What to pack? Consider one "wow" gift (stuffed animal, doll, soccer ball, tools, toy cars/trucks), then add school supplies, personal hygiene items, clothes, water bottle (great for small items), instruments, etc. Remove as much packing material as you can; it is easier to fit in more!

Need a little grace?

Last Sunday we kicked off our annual four-week generosity drive, by inviting you to Extend Love to your neighbors. Letters will be in the mail this morning, but if you want a sneak peak at our brochure, click here. If you can't open the link or don't receive our letter, please contact the Church Office, and we'll get one out to you right away. This Sunday, we'll focus on Grace - how much we need it, how oddly good it feels to extend it to others, and how it helps to heal wounds, deepen faith and connect us across our differences. Join us in worship (in-person or on YouTube) at 10:30AM, and bring your own Communion elements (or stop by the church office to pick up a set in advance). After worship, dial-in to Zoom at 11:30AM for Virtual Fellowship Hour. We'd love for you to GRACE us with your presence, participation and prayers!

Fall is Time to Extend
The first official day of autumn was this week, and I bought my first box of pumpkin spice coffee... so it must be rolling around to the season of gratitude and generosity! Since everything seems different in 2020, we're offering a new take on the old themes and asking you to EXTEND the love, grace, joy, and thanks already within you. Please join us this Sunday at 10:30AM in-person (with Covid-precautions) or online at the YouTube link below to learn some practical ways to to be healed and grow stronger, as we heal and strengthen our families, community, church and world.
We'll continue Virtual Fellowship Hour at 11:30AM after worship - just click that link to join us, and thanks to all of you who have given that a try!
Blessings for expansive love, Pastor Emily

Your ongoing generosity, with your money, presence, prayers and community service during this pandemic are inspiring. Please click below to give online, stop by the office (Tues-Fri 10AM-3PM), or mail in a check. THANK YOU!

FUMC's Very Own Hero!
Although numbers of cases and patients had declined in Colorado there was a need for doctors in Phoenix, AZ. One of our members, Dr. Gregory Golden stepped in when help was needed. We are all so thankful for the sacrifices he and his wife Heather and their 3 children made to be of service to others. Click the image to read the Trib article.
Honor Suicide Awareness Month
This Saturday, Sept. 26th, we are offering a Youth Mental Health First Aid Course, an 8-hour program to prevent teen suicide by recognizing warning signs, and offering early intervention tips. If you would like to register, please email the instructor, Dr. Shannon Devlin, or call/text her at 970-381-4938 with your questions or interest. We are nealy FULL, but can squeeze in a few more people! This program is free to all participants, thanks to a grant and donations. Please contact Donna Dodrill (phone 303-641-6067), our church host, if you have questions or can't reach Shannon.
Join the women's Bible study Thursday evenings at 5:30PM for "Footnotes, Major Lessons from Minor Bible Characters" by Julie Lyles Carter. This study is designed to encourage us as we discover our potential to shine brightly for God. Contact Pat Ferrell with questions.
