First United Methodist Church of Windsor

News from the Pews
When's worship?
Please remember that this Sunday, June 6, we will begin worship at 10:00AM (rather than 10:30). Adult Sunday School will meet in person at 9:00AM in the basement, and Fellowship Time after worship will return to Fellowship Hall (with something to eat!)
Choose courageously
My final month as your Pastor in Windsor has begun. As I work to conclude with dignity and grace, while receiving communications from my new congregation and District in Denver, there are moments when I simply feel overwhelmed and inadequate to meet all the challenges, expectations and emotions coming at me. Perhaps the pandemic has made you feel this way at times, too, or other difficult or transitional periods in your life? Change is never easy, growth "spurts" hurt, and so many people lack kindness. But Jesus Christ gives us a Third Way, an alternative to our nation's obsession with binary choices. He encourages us to choose courageously. Go against the grain. Love and be gentle, even when others attack. In fact, our final sermon series, Beauty Evermore, is based on Psalm 27:1-6, but verse 4 has been my prayer this week: "There is one thing, and one thing only, that I ask of you, Lord: to live in God's house my whole life long. I will spend my days contemplating God's beauty, and studying at God's feet." There are plans to make, people to visit, tears to shed and celebrations to attend... and yet, in the hustle and bustle of it all, I feel closest to God in the silence of a gentle breeze, with windchimes tinkling, my children laughing in the background, and my soul reconnecting to God's beauty in creation, in chaos, even in me. May you also find those moments this week!
June 6, 2021 Worship:  Beauty Evermore 1:  Choose Courageously, scripture Psalm 27:1-6
Stream begins at 9:50AM with live music, Worship begins at 10:00AM.

Children's Church
All kids are welcome to join us for in-person Children's Church launching this Sunday, June 6th during the service. For the month of June, we'll have fun activities on the church lawn (weather permitting) focused on exploring God in nature, led by Brooklyn (& maybe Mike?) McBride.
Spring Forward Clean-Up
Our new Family Ministries Developer, Brooklyn McBride, invites everyone to stay after church this Sunday for lunch to discuss your hopes and dreams for our children, grandchildren, and future growth. Please meet in the basement after Fellowship Time, as we talk and organize the big storage room.
With the updated guidelines of CDC and the State of Colorado, the trustees have updated the Church COVID 19 guidelines. Starting Sunday, June 6, if you are fully vaccinated (2 weeks after final dose), you are no longer required to wear a mask or stay 6 feet away from others, in small or large groups. If you are unvaccinated, we encourage you to continue to wear masks indoors. If you are immuno-compromised, please speak with your physician before retiring your mask. Children under 11 years are not required to mask. Anyone may elect to continue wearing a mask, as they feel most comfortable.

Our own Music Director, Megan Mellenthien, placed second in the CS International Competition 2021's Musical Theater preprofessional division. Great job, Megan! Listen to her winning entry here. Megan is preparing a rousing Chancel Choir virtual Anthem for Pastor Emily's last day. Grab some sunglasses and reach out to her to join the fun!
    Miss movie nights?
Join the WSYG (Walnut Street Youth Group) this Friday at 8PM at St. Alban's Episcopal Church courtyard, 311 Walnut Street,  for a FREE outdoor showing of "How to Train Your Dragon." BYOC (bring your own chair).  Popcorn, candy, and drinks provided by the WSYG.  A radio station is also available for those who want a drive-in movie experience in their car.
    Vacation Bible School
We are co-hosting VBS at Bethel Lutheran Church for kids ages 3 to 5th grade, from 9AM-12PM June 14-18. Register here, registration is capped at 50 kids (first come, first served). Pastor Emily and others from our church will be launching into outer space - wanna join them? Volunteer here
    Come dream & plan
On Tuesday, June 22nd at 5:30PM, our Leadership Board (formerly called Leadership Council) invites EVERYONE with hopes, dreams and ideas for the future of our church to join a one-hour visioning session in Fellowship Hall. We need to hear from new members, guests, and those who've been around forever. It's time to articulate what God has laid on our hearts. Contact Perry Cogburn, Leadership Chair, for questions, or to collect some of the background/source documents.
    Volunteers needed
We need to revive the tradition of having 2 ushers and greeters in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings to pass out bulletins, help new people find seats/get comfortable, and hand out Wiggly Worshiper Bags. We also need 2 volunteers at the Welcome Desk downstairs each week to keep our attendance, guest registry and contact tracing. Please contact the Church Office now to volunteer.
    Let's not disappoint
We have resume weekly worship at Columbine Commons on Sundays @2PM (Assisted Living) and 2:45PM (Skilled Nursing). Background and health checks required, two volunteers per week. Please contact the Church Office to sign up. These are short 20-30 minute services of prayer, song, Scripture and message. Pastor Emily can train you. We hate to disappoint our seniors, but have many open dates this summer!
    Prayer shawls, crafts
The United Methodist Women will be blessing our prayer shawls in July, so please bring your creations to the baskets in the church lobby (under the stained glass window). They are also having their annual Fall Bazaar in November to raise money for different local and international missions, and need your craft donations! Dates TBA. Questions? Contact President Paula Allard.
