News from the Pews
Loving Outrageously

I apologize if my announcement late last week and on Sunday morning upset you. I am still serving as your Pastor until June 30th (so feel free to call, email, text or connect), but this Sunday, June 13th, will be my last in the pulpit. Some asked me angrily why I'd want to leave early, or if I have enough vacation days. These questions, while not uncommon, show a fundamental lack of understanding of the Call to a Pastoral Life and Ministry. As a full-time wife, daughter, mother and friend, I have always tried to create boundaries between my work and my personal life. But when your deeply personal spirituality and relationships ARE part of your work, those lines get blurry. The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated this; my working mom friends call it "living in the mush." Where we once had systems, boundaries, and work-life balance, we now have a relentless mush of demands. I am always working, answering your texts, emails, and calls, even on my "days off," and I am always focused on my family, picking up sick kids or quarantining for the millionth time. I pray someday that school and daycare will return to "normal" and the intense fear and panic of the pandemic will subside. Maybe then I can reconstruct some of those delightful boundaries!

But until then... when I accepted God's call to become a pastor, I did not expect to get rich or work a 9-5 job. It's more like 24-7, so I work through illness, and still think about and pray for you, even on vacation! Attempting to serve and love outrageously, as Jesus did, is no small order. Love never ends. That's why pastors these days are encouraged to take a few Sundays off between appointments. I have loved you with my whole heart, with everything I have and all that I am... and I cannot simply flip a switch at midnight on June 30, and stop loving you and start loving the people of Christ Church. The heart doesn't work like that. I, too, need time to grieve, to say say goodbye, to prepare for what is coming - as do you.

So this Sunday, we are going to CELEBRATE!!! We'll remember our successes, give thanks to God for all we've experienced, and delight in our shared past, even as we plan for a beautiful future. Yours will be with Pastor Phil, and mine with the people of Denver at Christ Church UMC. But we still have a few weeks for private goodbyes. So reach out if God leads you. I am here for you. And so is this precious church! My family and I hope to see you all on Sunday at 10AM or online.

Missions News

June Mission Focus:

Windsor/Severance Food Pantry

It’s Peanut Butter/Jelly Time!
Bring your donations to the lobby and watch Mr. Peanut add up the pounds.

In addition to Peanut Butter and Jelly, the Food Pantry is in need of 5 lb bags of sugar and flour, small bottles of cooking oil, cereal and other non-perishables.
You may place items in the Huckabee Food Wagon just inside the door (near the office), or drop off during our Trunk collection on June 17th between 9 and 11 am
.
Habitat for Humanity
The new Greeley H4H project in Evans is progressing well.  It is a multi-family project, so building is in progress for several families.  If you are interested in participating in a Build Day, please contact us by email HERE to let us know. Also indicate which of these dates would work better for you: July 8, 10 or 15.
Music News
As Covid restrictions are lifted, congregational singing will resume, with or without facial coverings. If that makes you uncomfortable, please continue to wear a mask. We will reserve a few pews in the back to offer more distance.

The Chancel Choir will begin next week rehearsing in-person on Monday nights at 5:30pm! Come and give it a try! Let Megan, our Music Director, know if you have questions or would like to attend (here's her email). The choir will NOT yet be performing live, per CDC recommendations, but will do group recordings!
Family Ministries News
Children's Church
All kids are welcome to join us for in-person Children's Church during the service. For the month of June, we'll have fun activities on the church lawn (weather permitting) focused on exploring God in nature, led by Brooklyn & Mike McBride.
With the revised CDC and the State of Colorado guidelines, we have updated our Church policies. If you are fully vaccinated (2 weeks after final dose), you are no longer required to wear a mask or social distance. If you are unvaccinated, we encourage you to continue to mask indoors. If you are immuno-compromised, please speak with your physician before retiring your mask. Children under 11 years are not required to mask. Anyone may elect to continue wearing a mask, as they feel most comfortable.

    Come dream & plan
On Tuesday, June 22nd at 5:30PM, the Leadership Board invites YOU to join a one-hour visioning session in Fellowship Hall. We need to hear from new members, guests, and those who've been around a long time. It's time to articulate what God has laid on our hearts. Contact Perry Cogburn, Leadership Chair, for questions, or to collect some of the background/source documents.
    Volunteers needed
We need to revive the tradition of having 1-2 ushers and greeters in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings to pass out bulletins, help new people find seats/get comfortable, and hand out Wiggly Worshiper Bags. We also need 2 volunteers at the Welcome Desk downstairs each week to keep our attendance, guest registry and contact tracing. Please contact the Church Office now to volunteer.
    Let's not disappoint
We have resume weekly worship at Columbine Commons on Sundays @2PM (Assisted Living) and 2:45PM (Skilled Nursing). Background and health checks required, two volunteers per week. Please contact the Church Office to sign up. These are short 20-30 minute services of prayer, song, Scripture and message. Pastor Emily can train you. We hate to disappoint our seniors, but have many open dates this summer!
    Prayer shawls, crafts
The United Methodist Women will be blessing our prayer shawls in July, so please bring your creations to the baskets in the church lobby (under the stained glass window). They are also having their annual Fall Bazaar in November to raise money for different local and international missions, and need your craft donations! Dates TBA. Questions? Contact President Paula Allard.
    Celebrate good times
Happy Birthday to Cristina Caplinger (6/12),  Susan Jewell-Klema (6/15), and Mike Ferrell (6/16).

    Prayer requests
Pastors Emily and Phil and their families for the transition, Vera C. (chemotherapy), Francy's friend Jenny Manuel, those recovering from illness (Bill H., Meg P., Lynda C.) or grief (Norman Rowland's daughter Vicky Schenkein, the Harris-Reed family), for our homebound members Ann, Eileen, Judy, Bud, Bob, and Don; and for all who paid the ultimate price for our freedom, soldiers and citizens, as we honor D-Day, the Tulsa Race Riots and other tragedies.
